This string of shows is my second favorite Bright Eyes tour ever. It was called “The Collection of Songs Tour,” and I believe it was was touted as “Bright Eyes Playing all their hits,” or some other such nonsense. I saw them the night before the tour actually opened at The Glasshouse in Pomona. They were a special guest on Copeland’s headlining tour with The Spill Canvas, Melee, and Daphne Loves Derby for that one night. I had to leave halfway through the set because my ride had a curfew and Bright Eyes didn’t come on until about 11.
At one point Conor told the crowd to stop singing because it fucked him up. Sabrina (Breezy) was on this tour and after the first song Conor had to have her lights changed. The strings on her harp were red and the red lights made them hard to distinguish. I remember they played Arienette and I don’t think they played that the next night, but I don’t remember much else unfortunately as I had to leave so suddenly and early.
The next night was the first official night of the tour at the Santa Barbara Bowl and the set list, from what I recall, was amazing. Falling Out of Love At This Volume, Oh, You Are The Roots That Sleep Beneath My Feet And Hold The Earth In Place, Napoleon’s Hat, Something Vague, Kathy With A K’s Song, The Calendar That Hung Itself (with my all-time favorite lyric change of “Does he know the place below below your waist is your favorite to be touched”), Hit The Switch, and others. The sound was MUCH better on the bigger stage, and at some points there was a very light drizzle. I think during Lua, in fact.
If you wask me questions I may remember more.
